The Silver Persian has long been referred to as the “Rolls Royce” of the cat world. The look is timeless and elegant, and they have always been described as regal and exquisite in appearance. It is a “breed” of classic, incredible beauty, considered by many to be the most beautiful Persian color, if not the Fairest of them All.

Chinchilla Silver Persian Female

A non typical sized female.  Lexus is 10.2 lbs.

The Chinchilla silver persian is relatively small for the persian breed. 

 On average females weigh 5.5 - 7 lbs.

Chinchilla Persians have silky, long, luxurious fur with a huge neck ruff, a soft undercoat and a plumed tail. Their morphology is cobby, but they are lighter built than other Persians. They are usually much smaller than other Persians, with an average weight of 5.5 to 7 lbs. The head is round and broad. Legs are thick with large rounded paws. The muzzle is moderately short. Be sure to find a breeder who feels the HEALTH of the cat is a top priority, but Chinchillas are usually healthier than other Persians, due to their old type. Small ears are round and set far apart. Eyes are big and round with a typical sweet expression. Coat colors are chinchilla, shaded silver, blue and golden,  with green or blue/green eyes.

Persian Eye Cleaning Tips

**Update 2014  I have found a better every day solution for cleaning your persian's eyes.

OPTREX Multi Action Eye Wash.  

Continue to substitute Sovereign silver for heavy debris.

 Supplies:

Q-Tips
Cotton balls or cosmetic pads
OPTREX multi action eye wash
Sovereign Silver
Eye Envy Powder
Eye makeup brush
Eye brow comb

Use the Eye brow comb to completely comb their head including back of ears and chin. This will relax them so you can work around the eyes.  Repeat this process if they start to squirm.
(If the eye debris is heavy I'll start by using a cotton ball dipped into Sovereign Silver) 

Every day cleaning:

 Dip Qtip in OPTREX multi action eye wash on one end of Q-tip

Roll the Q-tip from the corner of their eye outward

Use the dry end of Q-tip to help remove debris

Repeat this process until all debris is removed from both eyes

Use a dry Q-tip to roll from corner of eyes and back to help dry the area

Dab the eye shadow brush in Eye Envy Powder and gently blot it under the eye.  Make sure you protect the eye & nose from excess powder.

Repeat the powder process again to help conceal any stains.

Don't forget to reward them with a treat!

Persian Nail Clipping Tips

How to clip your Chinchilla Silver nails

Ideally you should introduce your cat to nail clipping when she’s a kitten. Choose a chair in a quiet room where you can comfortably sit your cat on your lap. Get her when she’s relaxed and even sleepy, like in her groggy, after-meal state. 
If she starts to squirm I'll mention the word "TREAT" to let her know she will be rewarded.


Gently take one of your cat’s paws between your fingers.  Give her pad a little press so that the nail extends out, clip ONLY the tips of the nails and be careful not to cut the quick.
Please take extra time to do this!!  Chinchilla Silvers have tufts between their toes and it's hard to see their nails.

The pink part of a cat’s nail, called the quick, is where the nerves and blood vessels are. Do NOT cut this sensitive area. Snip only the white part of the claw.

Note:  My experience with female Chinchilla silvers vs. Male....it's easier to clip the female nails as they seem longer and thinner.  The Male nails are thicker and will get like this once out of their kitten years.   

Please use EXTREME CAUTION while clipping their nails....only clip the tips of nails.

I will trim nails about once every 3 weeks.  I only trim the front nails.  The back nails can be trimmed if you are concerned about them scratching your furniture or flooring.

BEST PERSIAN COMBS Chinchilla Silver Grooming

 The Chinchilla cat should be brushed daily to avoid the coat knotting and matting. Special attention needs to be paid to the underarms and under the tail and tummy, areas where the fur may rub and knots occur more commonly. Make sure to comb front to back and in reverse to make sure no matts are missed.  Be extra-gentle near her chest and belly to avoid injuring your Chinchilla.

If cat grooming is neglected, even for a few days, the coat can become very tangled and unless the cat is extremely tolerant, it may not appreciate the discomfort involved in restoring the coat to a knot-free condition. Besides, if loose hair is not removed on a daily basis, it will be swallowed by the cat, creating hairballs in the stomach.
